Digital Thermometers & Hygrometers UK (16)

Youshiko thermometers and hygrometers show what the air around you is doing. A digital thermometer reads the temperature, a hygrometer or humidity meter adds humidity, and many models combine both as a temperature and humidity monitor with comfort indicators and min/max records. Choose an indoor outdoor thermometer with a wireless thermometer sensor to compare conditions inside and out, or a simple indoor humidity monitor for a bedroom or workspace. They suit anyone who wants an easy home temperature monitor for the house, greenhouse, garage or office.

About Thermometers & Hygrometers

What do a thermometer and a hygrometer measure?

A thermometer measures temperature, and many Youshiko models let you switch between °C and °F. A hygrometer measures humidity, the amount of moisture in the air, shown as a percentage. Most indoor models in this range combine the two on one display, so a single unit works as a thermometer, hygrometer and humidity meter. Depending on the model, you may also get minimum and maximum records, a comfort indicator or a wireless outdoor sensor.

Why monitor indoor temperature and humidity?

Temperature tells you whether a room is warm enough, and humidity tells you whether the air is damp or dry. Watching both makes it easier to decide when to heat, ventilate or open a window, and to spot a room that feels stuffy or damp. Persistently high humidity is often linked with condensation and damp, while very dry air can feel uncomfortable, so a humidity meter gives you a clear number to act on. It is also useful for storage spaces where conditions matter, such as a wine cellar or store room.

How does an indoor outdoor thermometer work?

An indoor outdoor thermometer shows the temperature inside next to the temperature outside, so you can see how much warmer or cooler it is before you head out, or keep an eye on frost risk on cold nights. The twin models in this range use a wireless sensor placed outside, which sends readings to the main display, so there is no cable to run through a wall or window frame.

Wireless outdoor sensors: placement and range

A wireless outdoor sensor needs to stay within range of the main display, and solid walls and metal can reduce the signal, so place it as close as is practical. For more representative readings, mount it in an open spot away from walls and other heat sources. Check each product page for the stated range and the batteries required. If you need a replacement or additional sensor for a compatible model, see our weather station sensors. Sensors are model-specific, so confirm the compatible models on each listing before ordering.

Monitoring different rooms around the home

Conditions can differ a lot from room to room, so one reading rarely tells the whole story. Compact thermometer hygrometers are easy to place in several rooms, with wall mounting, table standing or a magnetic holder depending on the model. For representative readings, keep a unit away from direct sunlight, radiators and other heat sources. Some possible uses:

  • Bedrooms: check the temperature and humidity where you sleep.
  • Living rooms: a model with a comfort indicator gives a quick read on how the room feels.
  • Kitchens: a hygrometer can show how humidity changes while you cook. For food and appliance temperatures, see the YC2010 spoon thermometer and the YC9020 and YC9021 fridge and freezer thermometers.
  • Conservatories and greenhouses: min and max records show overnight lows and daytime highs, so you can see how far temperatures swing.
  • Garages and sheds: unheated spaces can get cold, so check each model's stated temperature range before choosing. The YC9066 is listed from -10°C, for example, while the YC9060 is listed from 0°C.
  • Offices: a small desk or wall unit to keep an eye on the room where you work.

Minimum and maximum readings, comfort and humidity indicators

Minimum and maximum records store the lowest and highest readings so you can see overnight lows and daytime highs without watching the display. The YC9065, YC9066, YC9075 and YC9080 reset their records automatically every 24 hours, while models such as the YC9050 and YC9060 show records since the last reset. Check each listing for which readings are recorded.

Comfort indicators sum up how a room feels at a glance. The YC9066 shows Cold, Comfort or Hot, the YC9050 uses a smiley comfort-level display, the YC9065 has a comfort-level colour display, and the YC9080 adds a comfort indicator to its indoor and outdoor readings.

What is the difference between simple thermometers and hygrometer or wireless models?

  • Simple thermometers measure temperature only. In this range that means the YC2010 spoon thermometer for food, the YC9020 and YC9021 fridge and freezer thermometers (max/min records, count timer and a Safe Zone OK/HI display) and the YC779 window thermometer for outdoor temperature.
  • Thermometer hygrometers show temperature and humidity on one display, which makes them a simple indoor humidity monitor. Many add min/max records or a comfort indicator.
  • Wireless indoor outdoor models pair a main display with a wireless outdoor sensor. The YC9075 reads temperature, and the YC9080 reads humidity as well.
  • Air quality monitor: the CO-9400 tracks PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter with an AQI level indicator, alongside indoor temperature and humidity. Its wireless sensor takes the PM2.5 and PM10 readings.

How to choose the right thermometer or hygrometer

  • Inside only: choose a digital thermometer, or a thermometer hygrometer if you also want humidity.
  • Inside and outside: choose a twin model with a wireless sensor, and pick the YC9080 if you want outdoor humidity too.
  • A quick verdict: look for a comfort indicator.
  • Highs and lows: look for min and max records, and check whether they reset automatically every 24 hours.
  • Cold or unheated spaces: compare the stated temperature range on each listing.
  • Placement: mounting options vary, so check whether a model offers wall mounting, table standing or a magnetic holder.

If you want forecasts and more than temperature and humidity, a weather station may suit you better. Our home weather stations pair an indoor display with wireless outdoor sensors and add features such as animated forecast icons, with selected models adding barometric pressure or extra sensors. The full weather stations range covers more options. All Youshiko thermometers and hygrometers ship with free UK delivery.
