Check the time without reaching for your phone or sitting up in bed. The Youshiko YC9416 projection alarm clock projects time and temperature onto a ceiling or wall, while its multi-colour display brings together indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, comfort indication, calendar and weather forecast information.
This official UK version uses the MSF radio-controlled time signal for the UK and Ireland. Supplied with a wireless outdoor sensor and UK power supply, it combines a bedside clock with everyday weather monitoring in one stylish unit.
The adjustable projector lets you direct the time and temperature towards a suitable ceiling or wall. Position the unit so the projected information is visible from your bed, using the adjustable projection angle and brightness to suit the room.
The specified projection distance is 0.5–3 metres, with 1.5–3 metres recommended for optimal viewing. Visibility depends on room lighting, the projection surface and placement. Projection is easier to see in darker surroundings.
Separate colour sections help you distinguish time, outdoor conditions and indoor readings at a glance. Four display brightness modes allow you to choose illumination to suit daytime use or a darker bedroom. Use the included UK power supply for ongoing illuminated operation.
Display brightness and projection brightness can be adjusted separately. The screen and projection may temporarily go dark during radio-controlled time reception, as explained below.
The included wireless sensor sends outdoor temperature and humidity readings to the main unit without a data cable. Compare these with indoor conditions before getting dressed, heading to work or planning time outdoors.
The comfort indicator helps you interpret indoor conditions. Heat index provides additional context about how warm humid air may feel, while dew point helps describe moisture in the air alongside relative humidity.
Press DOWN during normal operation to switch temperature units between °C and °F. The indoor measuring range is 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F), and the indoor and remote humidity measuring range is 20%–95% RH.
Weather forecast icons and an animated trend provide an at-a-glance indication of changing local conditions. Forecast indications are estimates, not a guarantee of the weather ahead, and should be considered alongside current readings and an official forecast when planning weather-sensitive activities.
The system supports readings from up to three wireless sensors, allowing you to compare different indoor or outdoor locations. One sensor is included; additional compatible YC9312 sensors are optional and sold separately.
The stated wireless transmission range is up to 60 metres (approximately 196 feet). Walls, interference and placement can reduce reception. Test the connection before fixing a sensor in place. The wireless sensor can be wall-mounted or placed on a suitable tabletop, following the manual's siting guidance.
Use the MAX/MIN control to review the highest and lowest recorded temperature and humidity readings. These records reset automatically at midnight, providing a fresh set of daily extremes. They describe measured conditions, not predicted temperatures or humidity for the next 24 hours.
The outdoor temperature alert can help you keep track of a chosen limit. The low battery indicator helps you identify when batteries need attention. Refer to the manual for configuration and indicator details.
Dual alarms provide two separate alarm settings, and the snooze interval can be set between 5 and 60 minutes. The buzzer alarm includes an ice pre-alert function to draw attention to cold-weather conditions. Follow the user manual to configure this feature.
The alarm sound volume cannot be adjusted. The ice pre-alert does not confirm that ice is present and is not a substitute for checking actual outdoor conditions.
Allow approximately 5 minutes for initial outdoor sensor confirmation and around 30–45 minutes for readings to settle after setup or repositioning. Wireless sensor pairing and radio-controlled clock reception are separate processes, so one may complete before the other.
Important: a temporarily dark screen during clock synchronisation is expected. The screen and projection automatically turn off during MSF time reception to reduce interference. A reception attempt takes approximately 7 minutes, after which the screen lights up again. This temporary behaviour alone does not mean the clock is faulty.
After powering on, the clock starts an automatic reception attempt using the MSF UK and Ireland time signal. Successful reception sets the clock automatically and supports seasonal time adjustment. Reception depends on signal strength, placement and electrical interference.
MSF is broadcast from Cumbria and provides UK civil time. This official UK model uses MSF rather than the DCF-77 signal used by many continental European clocks. Choose either 12-hour or 24-hour time display; the calendar extends to 2099.
The clock schedules nightly reception attempts at 1:00 am, 2:00 am and 3:00 am. If reception fails, it can retry at 4:00 am and then 5:00 am. After the final 5:00 am attempt, no further automatic attempts are made during that nightly sequence, whether reception succeeds or not.
Keep the clock well away from televisions, computers, Wi-Fi hubs, mobile phones and other electronic equipment that may interfere with reception. If reception is unreliable, try another position before restarting or initiating a manual reception attempt.
The top controls include brightness/settings, alarm, maximum/minimum readings, snooze/light, UP and DOWN, plus projection brightness adjustment. Rear switches let you control each alarm and turn projection on or off.
The main unit is designed for desktop or tabletop standing. Choose a position that gives a clear projection surface, reliable sensor communication and good MSF reception. Follow the manual for outdoor sensor siting and power requirements.
The main unit takes two AA batteries, and the wireless sensor takes two AA batteries; batteries are not included. A UK power supply is included. Use mains power for ongoing illuminated display operation rather than assuming batteries provide continuous lighting and projection.
The supplied adaptor's stated output is DC 5 V / 120 mA. Use the supplied adaptor and check its label and the manual before connecting a replacement.
At night, check the projected time without picking up your phone. In the morning, compare the bedroom temperature with outdoor conditions before choosing what to wear. During the day, use the colour display to follow indoor comfort and changes outside.
The combination of projection, alarms and wireless weather readings makes the YC9416 particularly useful for anyone who wants more than a basic bedside clock without using several separate devices.
A projection clock without an outdoor sensor suits straightforward bedside timekeeping. Choose a weather-station projection clock when you also want wireless outdoor readings. The comparison below uses the four options described in the supplied range information; the two weather-station options were listed under the same name.
